We hear you! (Part 1: Technology)

Last spring, we distributed a survey to the BC community, soliciting your feedback on the Library and ELC. We've had a chance to analyze the feedback, and we want to respond to a few of the issues that came up. You can see all of the questions and summaries of the answers in this Survey Summary Document.

What you said: The biggest weakness identified in the survey is technology. Our computers, you say, are slow, and printing is a pain. Faculty/staff request better/additional hardware for checkout.

What we've done: Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of control over the configuration of computers and printers in the library. But our friends in IT have listened to your concerns. It seems that our computers slow down because so many students use them, and the profiles stack up and slow things down. IT is in the process of re-imaging our lab computers, which we hope will speed them up for you. As for printing, IT is exploring new contracts for printers and may be offering solutions in the future.

On the faculty side, the library funded equipment for the IT classroom last spring so that it is now pre-wired for sound and video.  It's perfect for video chat or recording presentations.  We have mics wired around the room so everyone can be easily heard.  There's a webcam for video conferencing and a rear camera with zoom for recording presentations. Contact James Brooks to learn more about the room.
