Welcome back!

This week, we thought we'd share some tricks we use in library searching to get to the information we want more quickly. So each day, stop by this space to learn a search technique, or as the internet might say ... Click here to learn this one simple trick librarians don't want you to know!!!

But srsly, today's tip: have you ever looked at the options around our main search bar?

Choose what kind of items you need using the top line of links.

The default searches everything - books, scores, journal articles, newspapers, video and audio - everything but our equipment. But when looking for more specific information, you can limit your search to articles. Try it, just click where it says Articles, and the whole search bar transforms.

Then there's that line of links immediately below our search bar.

Advanced Search

If you know that you will have to do more than dropping a few words into a search, try the Advanced Search Link. Then you'll be able to access all kinds of options. Narrow your search to scholarly & peer-reviewed articles. Search for books only in the discipline of oceanography by a specific author in a specific language. Get fancy!

Subject Guides

We have Subject Guides for every major at BC. There you'll find search engines tailor-made to that major, suggested books, recommended journals, professional organizations and more. We're improving them all the time, and if you have a question or suggestion, just contact Chilly Heinz.

All Databases

If you click on our All Databases link, you will find a huge list of databases paid for by you that you can sort by subject and database type!

So give it a shot. We've got all kinds of good things to make your life easier!
